The Marcel ! rowing SEATSV2

The rower rows non-stop on a schedule of 2 hours up and 2 hours down. The Custom Rowing SeatV2, supports the rower’s posture and prevents buttocks pain.

These seats have been used in crossings since 2018, all produced in the Netherlands. KS Custom Seating originated from a company that is specialized in developing solutions for people, young and old, with various serious or less severe physical disabilities.
KS Custom Seating develops and builds personal seating solutions. This in the widest definition. For rowers, adaptive rowers, hand-bikers and even a cushion for in a car.

2018

Marcel Ates, captain of the Dutch Atlantic Four (DAF), called with an unexpected question. “We’re going to row across the Atlantic and have to sit in terrible seats. We’re looking for something else. Can you maybe make something for us.” On the question: “How did you find us?" He said: “Through the link you have with making seats for the KNRB for the Paralympic rowers.”

KS Custom Seating started developing special seats for ocean crossings. In this year the 'DAF' became the winning team in the Tallisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge. According to their own words, this was partly possible due to the use of these seats. They did not suffer from blisters, buttocks pain or other discomforts such as back pain. Marcel even said he was able to steer and control the boat with his butt. Since this first crossing, we have further developed the seat and our SeatV2 is now available.

The rental is named after Marcel Ates, his phone call got us into this. We where able to say yes and started to build something for the DAF, to work with them and having a full adventure with them got us into the world of Ocean Rowing.

Technical data
Custom rowing SEATV2

  • The frame is made from stainless steel specially build for the most used Rannoch boats.
  • The wheels are skate wheels which have been used in ocean-rowing for years.
  • The bearings are as they are marketed rustproof bearings, they last atleast a whole season including the crossing.
  • The seats always come with spares just in case.

The seat itself is been a concept of 1 size fits all, the padding and extra padding layers make sure everyone has a comfortable rowing position. The seat is mounted on moving pins so it can be angled towards every wanted position.

The curvature makes sure your center of gravity is as low as possible.

Our focus was on building a seat that lasts

and where the parts can easily be replaced

when needed. The seat is build and designed in the Netherlands.

John Davidson: “I believe the seat is one of the most important part of the row. These seats give you everything for the row except a sore bum. They are my first choice for any ocean crossing.”
